Move-Out Cleaning Checklist
What a landlord, property manager or buyer will actually look at when they inspect an empty home.
Use this after furniture is out and before the final walkthrough. An empty home is the only point at which most of this is reachable.
Kitchen
- Countertops cleared and wiped, including behind small appliances
- Sink and faucet scrubbed, including the base and drain edge
- Cabinet fronts wiped, handles degreased
- Cabinet and drawer interiors vacuumed and wiped
- Range, cooktop and control knobs degreased
- Oven interior, racks and door glass
- Range hood, filter and the wall behind the range
- Refrigerator interior, shelves, drawers and door seals
- Refrigerator exterior including the top and sides
- Dishwasher interior, filter and door edge
- Microwave inside and out
- Backsplash and grout lines
- Floors swept, mopped and edges detailed
Bathrooms
- Shower and tub walls, floor and door tracks descaled
- Grout scrubbed and soap scum removed
- Fixtures, shower head and handles descaled
- Toilet including base, behind the seat and the bolt caps
- Sink, counter, and the seam where they meet
- Mirrors and any glass
- Cabinet and drawer interiors
- Exhaust fan cover
- Floors including behind the toilet
Throughout
- Baseboards, door frames and door tops
- Light switches, outlet plates and door handles
- Interior windows, sills and tracks
- Ceiling fans and light fixtures
- Vents and air returns
- Closet shelving and floors
- Walls spot-cleaned for marks
- Floors vacuumed and mopped, edges and corners detailed
Commonly missed and commonly inspected
- Inside and on top of every cabinet
- Behind and underneath appliances that were moved
- Window tracks and sliding door channels
- Garage floor swept, cobwebs removed
- Patio or balcony swept
- Laundry area including behind the machines
- Water heater closet and utility spaces
- Light bulbs replaced where burnt out
