Move-In Cleaning Checklist
What to clean in an empty house before the furniture arrives.
The window between closing and the movers is the only time every cabinet interior, closet floor and baseboard is reachable without moving anything.
Kitchen
- Countertops cleared and wiped, including behind small appliances
- Sink and faucet scrubbed, including the base and drain edge
- Cabinet fronts wiped, handles degreased
- Cabinet and drawer interiors vacuumed and wiped
- Range, cooktop and control knobs degreased
- Oven interior, racks and door glass
- Range hood, filter and the wall behind the range
- Refrigerator interior, shelves, drawers and door seals
- Refrigerator exterior including the top and sides
- Dishwasher interior, filter and door edge
- Microwave inside and out
- Backsplash and grout lines
- Floors swept, mopped and edges detailed
Bathrooms
- Shower and tub walls, floor and door tracks descaled
- Grout scrubbed and soap scum removed
- Fixtures, shower head and handles descaled
- Toilet including base, behind the seat and the bolt caps
- Sink, counter, and the seam where they meet
- Mirrors and any glass
- Cabinet and drawer interiors
- Exhaust fan cover
- Floors including behind the toilet
Throughout
- Baseboards, door frames and door tops
- Light switches, outlet plates and door handles
- Interior windows, sills and tracks
- Ceiling fans and light fixtures
- Vents and air returns
- Closet shelving and floors
- Walls spot-cleaned for marks
- Floors vacuumed and mopped, edges and corners detailed

- Inside the laundry connections
- Window interiors and tracks throughout
- Behind where appliances will sit
- Air vents and returns before HVAC runs
