Checklist

Post-Construction Cleaning Checklist

What construction dust actually requires, and in what order.

Construction dust is fine, it resettles for days, and it travels through a whole house from one room of work. Sequence matters more than effort.

First pass — bulk

  • Debris and packaging removed
  • Stickers, labels and protective film removed from fixtures, windows and appliances
  • Paint, adhesive and grout haze removed from hard surfaces
  • Vacuum ceilings, walls, and all horizontal surfaces top-down

Second pass — detail

  • All millwork, trim, baseboards and door frames
  • Cabinet interiors and shelving
  • Window interiors, frames and tracks
  • Light fixtures, fans and switch plates
  • HVAC vents and returns
  • Fixtures, hardware and appliance exteriors

Final pass — after dust resettles

  • Repeat horizontal surfaces — fine dust will have settled again
  • Glass and mirrors, final polish
  • Floors, final vacuum and mop with edge detail
  • Walk the space in daylight to catch what artificial light hides
